Brazilian tattoo artist Gregorio Marangoni uses a tattoo technique called dot work, dotwork or pointillism. To create this effect, Marangoni first creates a bold outline, as seen in the tattoo of the dinosaur skull above, and then fills the outline with thousands of tiny dots to create shading. The more dots there are in an area, the darker the shade in that area will be. The fewer dots in an area, the lighter the shade.
