This tattoo by David Hale is divided into three sections; earth, trunk and leaves, each of which has its own textural style. The mandala texture was created with dot work, a tattoo technique that uses clusters of dots to build up shades within the tattoo. The bark of the tree is textured with curved lines while the leaves of the tree are textural because the tattoo artist has carefully tattooed individual designs for each leaf. Mandalas are often used in tree of life tattoo designs to add to the symbolism of spirituality and the circle of life.
