Watch Florin Zaharia tattoo this beautiful lotus flower design

Florin Zaharia works out of his tattoo studio in Romania, Zaharia tattoo studio, where he creates tattoos in a wide variety of styles, including realistic and geometric styles. In this video, we see him creating a geometric dotwork tattoo. He first tattoos crisp, beautifully clean outlines and then fills the shapes with dots to create depth and texture. He starts the dotwork sections by tattooing in dots in a watered-down black ink. He then tattoos over these dots with a more saturated black tattoo ink.

Zaharia has chosen to use a lotus flower in this tattoo design. The lotus flower symbolises feminine sensuality, passion and elegance. It is also used in art to represent new life or a new beginning, as all flowers are. You can learn more about the meaning of flower tattoos in Gorgeous Flower Tattoo Designs for Girls here on Rattatattoo. In addition to the feminine lotus flower, the tattoo artist has created a chandelier design to decorate the flower. Jewels hang suspended from delicate pearls and beads, draping the design in symbols of luxury and fortune. Zaharia’s masterful linework can be seen in how neat his curved lines and spirals are. They have a wonderful flow and are not wobbly, jagged or varying in thickness where they shouldn’t be.

In the video above, we see tattoo artist Florin Zaharia readying his workstation, his tattoo machine and his inks in preparation for tattooing a feminine lotus flower chandelier. He then transfers the hand drawn tattoo design from paper to skin and finally starts inking the actual tattoo. The tattoo video shows just a small part of the preparation process, that includes discussion between the artist and client about what design the client wants and where they would like it positioned on the body, which color inks they would like used in the tattoo and educating the client on how to care for their finished tattoo.

A lotus flower blossoms into a tattoo

Starting from the bottom of the design and working upwards, Florin Zaharia traces the outlines of the lotus flower chandelier. He uses a fine tipped tattoo needle to create thin, elegant lines. He has to have a steady hand for this kind of tattoo style because any tremor or shake in his hand can ruin the smooth flow of the organic curves and spirals in the tattoo design. Spirals are geometrically very beautiful and are used in sacred geometry art works and designs. Mathematically, spirals are beautiful too because they adhere to a growth factor known as the golden ratio.

The finished tattoo of a lotus blossom chandelier

Florin Zaharia has created a sense of drama in the tattoo by using different line weights; that is, he’s made some lines thicker than others. He also created abstract strings of pearls by using a line of different sized dots, and instead of creating a smooth gradient to give the flower petals a sense of richness and depth; he’s used hundreds of tiny dots. This tattoo technique is know as dot work and it too creates a dramatic effect that is full of interesting texture and depth. A a tattoo symbol, the lotus flower is used to symbolize new beginnings, and a spiritual transformation of the person wearing the lotus flower tattoo. The finished tattoo is a celebration of the human spirit, human creativity and the beauty that can be found in the world all around us.
