Marcin Aleksander Surowiec is a Polish tattoo artist who brings fine art to the world of body art through his abstract and surrealist tattoos. Some of his tattoos have a distinct cubist nature, resembling an art movement from the early 20th century known as cubism that was popularized by famous artists such as Pablo Picasso and Jean Metzinger. The movement focused on recreating the organic, natural world around the artists with abstract, geometric forms. Sharp angles brought the emotions of the subjects into focus and gave landscapes an otherworldly effect. At the time, the movement was highly controversial as there were many art critics who applauded realism and turned their noses up at the modern, abstract art movements.

Many of Surowiec’s tattoo designs follow the ideals of the cubist movement while incorporating surrealist elements. Other designs by this artist combine a modern graphic design effect with surrealist elements to create visionary scenes on skin. Surrealism was another early 20th century art form that has survived to this day, with many current artists exploring the boundaries of this highly imaginative art genre.

Marcin Surowiec’s tattoo designs are the kind of art that you would expect to find on an album cover for an electronic musician, but it looks fantastic as tattoo designs simply because it is so different from the run-of-the-mill tattoo designs that predominate tattoo culture. Surowiec’s tattoo style boasts a wide variety of textures, gradient styles and fine detail that combine to add aesthetic appeal to his tattoos. Each of his tattoos is of a high quality, with saturated areas of color, crisp line-work and recognizable silhouettes.
