Gábor Jelencsik is a new school tattoo artist from Budapest, Hungary who goes by the nickame “Jelo”. His style is an interesting combination of new school tattoo design and pop surrealism art. New school tattoos are very cartoonish and often use warped perspectives inspired by graffiti art. Pop surrealism is based on traditional surrealism, but it’s an art form that often includes popular characters from film and animation as its subjects. Pop surrealism characters have cartoonish features, yet unlike new school tattoo designs, pop surrealism tattoos depict the cartoon characters in a realistic, 3-dimensional form.

The high saturation and bright color palette of Jelo’s tattoos add to the fun-loving and cheerful nature of his body art designs. Warped perspectives and caricatures add to the humorous effect of his tattoo art and offer clients with an upbeat personality the opportunity to wear a tattoo that expresses their own enjoyment of life.

Even when expressing a darker subject such as a skull, Jelo manages to add a sense of beauty and hope into the design in the form of elegant and peaceful colors. Though there isn’t a lot of information about Jelo online; he appears to have what it takes to gain global recognition for himself and his excellently rendered pop surrealist and new school tattoos.
