Peter “Walrus” Madsen Breathes Modern Spiritualism into Tribal Tattoos

Every inch of Peter Madsen’s tattoos is crammed with spiritual patterns or symbolic imagery. As a whole, Madsen’s spiritual tattoo designs are intriguing and individualized. His bold yet highly detailed tattoos are designed to meet his client’s criteria, expressing the client’s spiritual beliefs through the medium of body art.

Peter “Walrus” Madsen is inspired by Nordic and Scandivian folk art, Middle Eastern sacred geometry and the structure of the human body. Madsen combines these influences beautifully in a style that is both a nod to ancient tribal designs and modern tattoo styles. He enjoys employing modern tattoo techniques such as dotwork and scratch-work. Unlike many tattoo artists, Madsen prefers to create his designs directly on the client’s skin instead of on the 2-dimensional surface of a piece of paper. This is because Madsen creates his designs to work with the shape of the client’s body and it allows him to engage the client in the design process. Each of Peter “Walrus” Madsen’s tattoos is individual and unique because each client’s body and personality is different. If you’re a tattoo enthusiast who’s looking for a personalized, custom tattoo design with European tribal elements and Eastern influences, Walrus is your guy.

Madsen currently works at The Meatshop in Denmark. You contact him via the Meatshop website or through Facebook. (All pictures shown below are from the links above)

Both the subject (the bull) and the styling of this symbolic design are masculine and the placement of the tattoo perfectly emphasizes the client’s broad, strong back. Within the art work are influences of Scandinavian and Norse tribal designs which pay homage to the client’s European heritage.
